Driven piles are now in place for a project to supply new pontoons at ABP Ports' Lowestoft for offshore wind vessels. Solent-based Walcon Marine has deployed its own piling barge, Walcon Wizard, to do the work before returning to Southampton. "It may not look like a completed facility yet, but this is an essential stage of the project: specialist plant, marine construction and careful sequencing create the framework for everything that follows," the company says. With the foundation for the floating infrastructure completed, the next phase will be the pontoon installation.
Lowestoft is evolving from an established offshore wind operations and maintenance base into a wider construction and service hub. East Anglia One already operates from the port, while Lowestoft's deep-water berths are set to support East Anglia 2 and 3, alongside construction and commissioning work for RWE’s Norfolk Vanguard projects. Established in 1963, Walcon specialises in the design, manufacture and installation of floating berthing solutions for commercial and leisure applications with its own fleet of marine construction vessels.
